Community Services Department Community Services Department Updates

A Message From Community Services

It’s our goal to provide excellent services to you during this unprecedented COVID-19 health emergency. All City departments are working to keep the community clean and safe, to provide essential services, and to expedite safe and sustained economic recovery.

The health emergency and resulting budget impacts has required restructuring of many of our services. The City’s first priority is responding to COVID-19 during this health emergency and ensuring compliance with Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s emergency orders to slow the spread of the virus. Beyond Santa Monica’s response to COVID-19, the City’s Community Services Department will prioritize responses to requests that pose an immediate life/health safety concern, which include but are not limited to:

  • Safely re-open recreational amenities and facilities
  • Launch the Art of Recovery, our economic and community recovery initiative
  • Advance the Belmar History + Art project
  • Maintain core affordable housing and community-based social safety net for low-income and vulnerable households, focusing on:
    • Housing access, POD expansion
    • Emergency rental assistance program
    • Food security for families and youth
    • Assistance to people experiencing homelessness
    • Out-of-school time programs

Please anticipate delays in response times to requests that are not related to the COVID-19 emergency, the prioritized areas listed above, or other life safety concerns.

Thank you for your continued patience during this unprecedented time.
